The Position of Chinese Fesi Exporters Has Enhanced Remarkably This Year

Demand for Chinese ferrosilicon has grown significantly since the beginning of the year amid the European energy crisis. Later with the imposition of economic sanctions on another major supplier, Russia, Chinese material appear to be more appealing.

According to Chinese customs statistics, from January to April 2022, China's export volume of ferrosilicon (above 55% Si) was 264,500 tons, an almost doubled year-on-year increase. There has been considerable growth in supplies to Europe and Turkey. During the period, Chinese deliveries to the EU were 12,500 t (vs. 5,000 t in the same period last year) and 19,500 t (300 t) to Turkey. The increase can be mainly credited to the fact that EU producers were forced to reduce their output due to the energy crisis. In addition, a significant increase in prices has made the alloy available to the United States market. From January to April, shipments to the United States were 12,300 tons (35 tons in the same period last year).

On account of the economic sanctions imposed on Russia in March, China's ferrosilicon exports in April were 75,500 tons, with an increase of 63% year-on-year.
